LA River Walk
By Suzi HogePosted: 02/27/2025
A special weekend LA River Walk took place on Sunday, February 9th. It began at the Rio De Los Angeles State Park, just off San Fernando Road. The group of 15 Villagers met there in the parking lot and headed out, following Villager Jane Hufnagel, who planned the walk.
After a short walk out of the park and through the adjacent neighborhood, we arrived at the river. Due to the recent rain, water was flowing and there were lots of lush plants surrounding ponds of water. Crossing over the jazzy orange bridge, we gathered as Jane explained that we would be walking on a path much used by bicyclists. We needed to keep to the narrow walking path, out of the lanes designated for bikes. She explained, “The bikers can be assertive.”
As we strolled along the river we got to see and hear birds, especially water birds who were enjoying the sunshine and running water in the river. "As a newer member of the Village,” Janel Munguia shared, “I have very much enjoyed becoming acquainted with other members through various walking/hiking activities. This past Sunday's LA River Walk offered a relaxing excursion through a changing and surprising Los Angeles landscape with good company and conversation."
The Spoke Bicycle Café, in Frogtown, was our stopping point for morning coffee, snacks, and a chance to visit. They serve air for bicycle tires as well as food and drinks. After our break, we headed back to our cars, walking a bit under 4 miles that morning.
