Go Figure: Cheryl & Beth Are Skating Through Life
By Karen BagnardPosted: 12/19/2024
Haven’t we all done that a time or two in our lives... skated on thin ice? Well, we have two Villagers who have skated on thin and thick ice! Cheryl Graffi and Beth Molnar are figure skaters and have been nearly all their lives. And they are still skating, at least three times a week, go to “skate camp” every summer and still compete in amateur competitions.
Cheryl grew up skating in Chicago… mostly thick ice there! It’s as natural as walking for her. She also fell in love with figure skating and, with her ex-husband, who also did dance skating. As she told us at the Member Connections presentation, she and Beth, “I can never stop or I may not get back on the ice again.” Cheryl has won awards for being the oldest figure skater!
Beth fell in love with figure skating at about age 10 while a Girl Scout. She skated at the old Pasadena Winter Gardens and the ice rink that used to be in one of the ballrooms at the Civic Center. These days, she and Cheryl skate in the “big tent” at the Civic Center.
During their presentation they demonstrated the protective padding they wear on the ice and shared a wonderful video of a routine they performed. These gals may be old enough to be Villagers but they are truly young at heart!
Beth and Cheryl have promised to let us know the next time they will be performing or competing at the Pasadena ice rink. They will certainly have a Village cheering them on!
