Current Race Issues

Our next meeting is scheduled for November 17th at 12 noon Pacific on our usual link.  There is no presentation scheduled. Our current news cycle is dominated by the conflict in Gaza but with some time devoted to the election and the various Trump trials. It would be an interesting discussion to consider how the race issues that we always discuss are affecting these new stories or how those issues will be affected by the happenings that are being reported on. It is very clear that the book bannings that are mentioned in the reporting about upcoming elections is very relevant to our focus area but the implications of the other news stories may be a little less clear. It very much seems that the world we are faced with in 2025 will be different in some important ways from what we see in 2023.

Join us in a discussion and bring the questions that occur to you when you think about this or any answers that you have discovered for yourself. This should be ample material for a very intriguing and engaging discussion.

Looking ahead, Sharon and Dick will join us on December 1st at 10am Pacific to discuss Wokeism and CRT. We plan to meet on December 15th at noon and do not have a specific subject as of this point. Beginning the new year on January 5th at 10am Pacific, Brian Biery will return for another of his enlightening presentations describing some history of the Pasadena Area. January 19th at noon Pacific is an open date. In February, Black History Month, we will have two special guests. On February 2nd at 10am Pacific we will have Larry Duplechan discuss his new book “Movies that Made me Gay.” On February 16th, Ricky Pickens will tell us about his work in violence interruption here in Pasadena working with youth gangs. More information regarding all these upcoming presentations will be provided in future postings.
