As a fully engaged and very active community, Pasadena Village has swung into quick action in response to this catastrophe. Listed below, in no particular order of importance or time, are a number of things that we as a Village are doing. This is a summary of our initial, current ongoing responses and more details will be made available as we learn them. Follow this site for the latest information that we have available
• We immediately began efforts to gather information so that we would be in our best position to respond to the crisis and provide information to our community. A phone tree was organized by the staff and volunteers from the community stepped forward to sign up to make calls and send emails to each of our members. At this point we have made contact with all but 4 of our current 230 membership. After one more effort to reach them, we will begin notifying emergency contacts that we have been unable to contact them.
• Our staff has begun collecting names of members of the community who have called in with offers of various kinds of support. From materials that might be useful to people who have suffered losses, places for people to stay who have lost their homes, volunteer time to aid with our efforts to respond to the crisis.
• Bulletins have been sent to our Membership to inform everyone with an e-mail about what we are doing and what we need.
• A Relief Fund was established to collect money to assist Villagers who have suffered direct losses. Access to the Relief Fund has been made available through a link on our website so that anyone coming to our website through the home page will have an opportunity to make a contribution to our Relief Fund. The Relief Fund concept has been reviewed and approved by the Executive Committee. Policies for the operation of the fund are being prepared.
• Village to Village Network has published information about our situation and has initiated fundraising efforts on our behalf. Other Villages are watching Pasadena Village and are greatly concerned about our situation.
• Both Zoom and in-person meetings have been set up as support groups to allow Villagers to congregate, share their stories, and learn about what needs there are that are not being adequately addressed. These meetings provide an opportunity to fellow Villagers to experience the benefit of being a part of a community like ours.
• This blog topic has been established to serve as a single point of reference where any one can go to learn the latest information that we have. Our efforts in this regard will be to maintain this topic on a daily basis. This should relieve the burden on our staff and volunteers who have to answer the phone responding to questions from Villagers about what is happening with the relief efforts.
• Our community is providing an amazing response to this crisis and our staff, Katie, Hannah, Nathan, Samantha and Tino, our volunteer, are making incredible efforts to keep up with this situation and Villagers are stepping forward to offer their time and energy as well. We can be proud of being a part of Pasadena Village.
