SAGES & SEEKERS
Want to talk to a member of the younger generation for a few weeks?
Be sure to come to this event so you can hear all about it and sign up to be a Sage.
Sages & Seekers Program strives to combat social isolation and dissolve age-related segregation within our communities, while meeting the universal and compelling need of both young adults and elders to make sense of their lives. This is achieved by the simple art of conversation, matching seniors with high school students for six weeks. Several Village members have already participated and can help answer any questions about what to expect if you volunteer. Now's your chance to talk to a youngster who actually wants to listen!
Loni Brown, Sage Liaison, will answer questions and tell stories about the Sages (Senior Citizens) and the Seekers (High School Student). Ms. Brown states, “ The Sages and Seekers program is profound, important, and fun. I have witnessed positive changes in both generations. This program reduces isolation, and gives a sense of contributing to community, connecting with another generation, and increases the value of meaningful, authentic conversations."
In 2017 the University of Southern California held a study on program participants and both generations had increased cognitive brain function due to participation in the program.
Sponsored by the Educational Programs Committee.
